Weight gain: do you wish to gain fat, or muscle?
To gain fat, simply eat more calories, primarily from fruit. To gain muscle, do the same, but also increase fitness training to include hypertrophy exercises. 10-20 reps is considered excellent for this purpose, though 15-25 is fine if you prefer. If the weight is too heavy to make that many reps, it's too heavy. If you can go beyond that number of reps, the weight is too light. There is no magical number of sets that is ideal, but 3-5 is considered appropriate.
