Subject:         Advice on Sleep Schedule Needed

Is it true that they body likes and needs a regular schedule
(perhaps within a few hours of variation here and there)? I
would assume this is true so it can work most efficiently.

I have not been living a healthy lifestyle and end up waking
in the late afternoon or evening, could be 4pm or even 8pm. I
can't seem to sleep at night which makes me feel miserable
because there isn't much to do. If it were day I'd take a
walk. I often end up sitting a lot and eating a lot then.
Depending when I got up I may go to bed between 4am and early
the next morning/afternoon. I tried having caffeine and just
staying up til the next evening but that didn't work. I
couldn't stay up over 24 hours. I also tried forcing myself up
early with an alarm but I end up being so tired I crave coffee
and junk food and often give in which makes it worse. Then I
try to lay in bed at a normal sleeping hour (say midnight) and
can't sleep. It feels miserable so I often have gotten up to
eat grains or junk which knocks me out eventually but not in
the right way because the next "morning" I feel like hell when
I wake up after having all that food sit in my stomach all
night. I just don't know where and how to break the pattern. I
started to follow a good routine regardless of when I woke up
and didn't have junk or coffee for a few days but I was still
waking up late and missing appointments which I got in trouble
for so I tried staying up, but failed, ate junk, and ended up
back at square one but obviously worse off.
What is the first step to changing this? Setting an alarm and
forcing staying up? That's what most people suggest. It made
me so miserable last time though and I gave into more and more
cravings. Its a bad cycle because the poor eating affects my
sleep and vice versa. I just want to sleep and wake at normal
hours and start a healthy 811 lifestyle because that makes the
most sense to me and feels the best. Please let me know what I
can do!
