I believe that when in touch with yourself, you will eat when hungry, and that that is likely the best plan. Arbitrarily imposed hardships, is that what you are asking?
Sometimes I eat light, sometimes I miss a meal, and sometimes the better part of a day goes by and I don't eat. Not sure I want to turn any of that into a pattern, plan, or imposition, but I don't see a problem with it, either.
