May I recommend that you read The 80/10/10 Diet, for starters? Weight loss recommendations including suggestions for figuring caloric intake are within.

Essentially, you multiply by ten the weight you wish to become, say 150 pounds, for a total of 1500. Then you add in for all physical activities. Around the house, at work, and for fitness; all activities add up. Say you come to a total of 500 for daily activity. Total: 1500 plus 500 equals 2000.

But honestly, more than likely you don't need to count calories, just eat fruits and vegetables and let the rest just happen naturally.
