We all buy our fruit early, and let it ripen at home. Even in California, in summer, unless you pick your fruit, you'll have to purchase it and wait. The sugars are the same, but the overall fruit quality is somewhat lower when picked before peak ripeness, but there is no other way to get it to market.

I'm not going to guess about your health, but it may be that you have to wait a few extra hours before checking your blood sugar to get accurate levels.
