Acidosis actually means that the body's buffer systems designed to keep the blood pH at normal levels are being stressed in their efforts to do so. Think of two guys running a few miles. One is completely fit to do so, the other is barely able to keep up. The fit guy can run and talk, whistle a tune, and give extra effort where needed. The unfit guy is breathing hard, really stressing all systems, just in order to keep up, and when the road gets even slightly more challenging, the unfit man loses ground. That's acidosis.
