I can understand why they do this in the Aus winter;
most likely they find (as we do in UK) that imported
fruit, picked unripe, in simply not sweet enough to be
satiating.

Sugar, coconut or otherwise, could easily be a
slippery slope back to processed and cooked items
increasingly allowed within the 811 parameter. Still
much better than a high-fat diet, but less than
optimal.

For what it's worth, my way around this is to consume
organic dates as a winter staple, whilst still
attempting variety with apples, pears, grapes etc
(usually disappointing). I eat a huge variety of
greens however. Not what Dr D would recommend, but
better than sugar.

Whatever you do, I think the trick is to get fruit
sweet enough to feel satisfied; eating unripe and
unsweet, as commercially available, is likely to
result in overeating and impaired digestion.
