Subject:         Quitting epilepsy medication?
Date: August 27, 2013 at 11:01 am PST

Dear Doug!

My mother has been eating fairly close to 811rv for a couple of years now, she is
enjoying much better health than before, and she is steady improving her
lifestyle and learning.

About 16 years ago she had a car accident after which she was diagnosed with
epilepsy, whiplash and a nerve injury in the neck and one in the face after hitting
the steering wheel. She has been on heavy medication for the whole time due to
the epilepsy and heavy pain.

After changing her lifestyle towards raw food, and hygienic principles in general,
she has experienced a big reduction in her pain levels, less headaches etc. The
first few years after the accident she tried a few different medications, but for
the last 12 years she has been using Ne.urontin (Gabapentin). Slowly, she has
been able to reduce her dosage, by herself, to a much lower level than before.
She is now taking about 300mg twice a day (that's about a fifth of the former

My questions are these (and I will not hold you to your answer, or expect medical
advice here, just a casual opinion):

A) Would you say it is advisable to reduce her medication further, possibly all the
way down to nothing? A passionate hygienist myself I cannot see how the
medication can do any good, however I do see how it could hold the epileptic
activity in check. Have you ever heard of people with epilepsy going off

B) What would be the best approach to quitting? A fast? and do you have any
experience with Gabapentin or something similar?

C) Is epilepsy something that can heal? I know nerve damage is the slowest to

Thanks a lot Doug, I appreciate you taking the time!
