Dr. Doug Graham,

I was a Gerson patient and am indebted to the work of the late Dr.
Max Gerson. The entire point of the therapy is to induce healing
crises with organic whole foods and juices. The supplements are
minimal. The idea is to get all your nourishment from whole foods.
The potassium powder, which Dr. Gerson spent quite some time
developing and testing, is a temporary stop-gap measure. Later,
they say not to take supplements, once you are healthy. They do
not suggest that you go on their diet for life. The treatment is
usually for dying people, first for tuberculosis patients and then for
advanced cancer. Every element of the treatment is very well
thought out. Once your body has reached a state of advanced
chronic illness everything you put into your body has an impact.
This is why they don't allow fluoridated water. Patients have died
from eating the wrong thing, like alfalfa sprouts, or an avocado, so
they are very careful. Significantly for you, it is a very low-fat diet.
Anyway, for the very sick everything you eat is important so general
principles may not be enough. For instance, Dr. Gerson did tests
and found that every fat but Flax and (I think it was but am not
sure) borage oils cause cancer to grow. So hypothetically, a person
could go 80 10 10 and die from avocados with advanced cancer.
Hypothetically, this shouldn't be so, but you wouldn't catch me
eating other high fat foods besides if I had cancer. So, each illness
has specific problems even if overall theories on healing apply,
such as "whole foods heal"

It turns out that my disease, chronic lyme, is one of the few
illnesses Gerson cannot cure (ever). But without Gerson I would
have never gotten off my mother's couch. I personally spoke to a
man who cured himself of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma this way. He
was in hospice when his wife made him that first juice.
I hope you aren't saying you aren't advising any "therapy" for the
dying. Gerson therapy has saved thousands of lives and done much
to promote the idea that raw plant foods heal over the last 80
years.

If it weren't for Gerson I probably wouldn't have become interested
in 80 10 10. I thought, wait a minute, they cured candida and
diabetes on high carb low fat diets...Otherwise, as a person with
multiple infections who is fruit sensitive, every bite of fruit causes
my lips to turn numb, I would have never ordered your book. I
have not started 80 10 10 yet. I am raw vegan and am still reading
the book at the moment.

I'm sure you didn't mean to sound dismissive but I had to say a few
words in support of the work of the late Dr. Max Gerson to whom
all of us who are interested in raw foods should be greatly
indebted. All that said, thank you for your work as well. When I
saw Raw Kristina eat a massive meal of organic produce I had this
overwhelming craving and thought, my body needs that, and
ordered your book.
