Hey Bea, i recently looked up "mangoes calcium" on google ( i wanted to know if they had any, how much etc ) and i saw that unfortunately a great number of them are doused with some form of calcium to hasten ripening!! It seems that every year, in Pakistan, India and other countries they confiscate tonnes of these artificially ripened fruits which are deemed toxic... Look it up and see for yourself...

I was very disapointed as up until that point i was eating heaps of them every year... i now will only buy the ones that look a bit more natural colored ( including perhaps some green - which again, isn't ideal, as they are not fully ripe but... ) and have cut down on my consumption..

I also agree with you about the strange taste they had sometimes...

I hope this helps and sorry to be the bearer of bad news...
