quinces are considered too sour and hard to be eaten raw.
Unfortunately they are generally only consumed cooked and in jams
and sauces, due to their high pectin content. The seeds are toxic if
you consume them in large quantities. According to Dr Graham's test
of whether a food is designed for human consumption, a quince
wouldn't pass.
