There are easily 100 questions in this post. Please allow me to summarize. Healthful living is definitely the way to go, as is 811. But that doesn't mean you can't die from snakebite, or other illnesses, or from the drugs given to treat such conditions. Essentially, the situation is a crap shoot. You make your bets and take your chances. When I got dengue, I rested for a couple days and was fine afterwards. But there are different types of dengue, and different types of malaria, and I believe every situation is unique. Personally, I don't think taking drugs is the safest route, but if I was in the hospital, I'd let the medics do their job the way they saw fit, I think, though I wouldn't eat their food. :) Make intelligent decisions when you need to, because making them this far in advance just won't be meaningful should the emergency ever actually materialize.
