Short unsupervised fasts of between 3-5 days are typically relatively safe. That said, I have known people to require hospitalization after only 3 days of fasting, and have spoken to fasting supervisors who have hospitalized patients after only 2 days of fasting. There are no guarantees when taking unsupervised and arbitrary fasts.
