Thanks Dr. Graham for responding. Her total testosterone level was above normal at age fifteen; level 48 (normal 7-41). At that point she was 5 lbs away from being considered obese, she weighed 190 at 5'5. The pediatrician at the time felt that she didn't yet have PCOS yet as many girls have irregular periods at that age but encouraged her to exercise and change her diet. She did at that point consume a glass of fruit smoothie in the morning and salad, beans and fruit for lunch and dinner, allowing herself 1 cup of starch a day. This is the diet she chose although it didn't seem like enough calories to me. She became a runner (2 miles 4 days a week and did strength training 3 times a week) and lost 55lbs, acne cleared up completely and she looked great, she did have a period every 4-6 months after that. I didn't want to pressure her to be retested until she was ready but she just recently asked to be retested since she put back on 30lbs and although she's only exercising maybe twice a week now and is frustrated that she gains weight so much faster than her peers eating the same things. Her periods are the same and she has a some acne returning. We are going to be retested but I will try to steer her clear of medications as I feel this can we worked out naturally. But I just wanted to see what your thoughts were.
