I respect the heck out of bananas, and the digestion time they require. Rarely if ever do I eat any food sooner than four hours after making a meal of bananas, and I wait longer if I had a lot of bananas at the meal, or I wasn't active between meals.
There are many potential causes for your heartburn. It may be that if you precede the meal with a glass of water, you will be fine. It may be that you simply hadn't finished digesting the prior meal, and the two reacted badly with each other. There are other possibilities.
You might want to try sticking with one food for a few days in a row, to eliminate the possibility that poor combinations are affecting your digestion.
