For body functions to work I read it's 115 mg/day. They've added a safety amount to total 500 mg for exercising people. However, salt from vegetables stays much more in the body than added salt. Because extracted salt is sweated out to a higher degree. So even with exercise it may not be much more than 115 mg's a day. For me there's no problem to average 200-250 mg's a day per week with tomatoes, celery and carrots.
