| Subject: | fluoride + my children's teeth = ? |
|

Just got back from the dentist and he
confirmed with x-rays my 5 year old has
cavities on 7 of her 8 molars right where
they contact each other. As expected he
is a strong advocate of fluoride and
adamantly recommended its use in
toothpaste. The key point he made for its
use was to 're - mineralize the teeth'.
Some time ago I did some research on
fluoride and believe there is enough
evidence to warrant skepticism about its
safety if ingested but I'm conflicted about
its effectiveness and safety when used
topically and if there is still risk of it
entering the blood from under the tongue.
Because of this I've used a natural brand
from Welenda since she was old enough to
brush and never got around to switching.
We brush on average of 1.5 times a day but
have never flossed her teeth. For some
reason we never felt the urgency to floss
and the dr never recommended it until now.
Now the dr did mention she has slightly
abnormally tight molars which makes
brushing the problem area ineffective.
Would a fluoride toothpaste have helped
this situation or can it be attributed
primarily to improper hygiene and bad
layout of teeth?
Regards
Mike
