Subject:	paint and wood stain fumes

does inhaling paint/wood stain fumes cause illness permanently or impermanently/temporarily?
and
if the paint fumes/wood stain fumes are around fruits and greens for many many hours then are they absorbed into the fruits and greens and thus make them inedible/poisionous???
