Hello Dr Graham

After being a vegetarian, then a vegan for many years I found
myself naturally drawn to eating just fruit and vegetables, it just
made sense at the time and this was about 8 years ago. About 4-5
years ago a friend introduced me to a raw vegan who ate a mainly
high fat diet. They invited me to some raw meet ups and it was
there I came across your book. After reading it I realised this is
what I was already doing but learnt from it that there was more to
health than diet, so I made a conscious effort to get more sleep and
rest, get outside in the fresh air and sunshine daily and increase
exercise and physical activity. Stress was present but I found as I
took more time to rest and sleep my stress levels decreased. I also
simplified my life and adopted a more relaxed approach which
dramatically helped my emotional wellbeing.

When I first started eating all fruit and vegetable I lost a lot of
weight. This was probably due to the fact that I was under eating as
I hadn't gotten used to the amount of food that I needed to eat in
order to maintain energy levels and weight. By the end of the first
year I had managed to achieve a balance and felt really great -
energy was good and I felt on top of the world.

About 4-5 years ago I started to feel a little fatigued but at the time
didn't really think much about it. As the years past my energy got
lower and lower and I started to have a host of problems such as
nerve pain, poor digestion, headaches, weight gain, blurry vision,
chest pain, breathlessness, brain fog, hair loss, constant hunger no
matter how much I ate, and utter exhaustion. It became a real
struggle to get out of bed each day and all I wanted to do was
sleep. Because I was so shattered my mood also lowered.

I also put on nearly 30kg more weight than I had as a healthy sized
vegan. I've always been active and athletic but the lack of energy
and weight gain caused me to stop exercising.

My strengths had become diet, sleep, fresh air, sunlight, rest, fun,
exercise and emotional wellbeing but none of these changed until
my physical health started to decline. Currently all of them are
week because I feel so exhausted and unhappy with my health.

My doctor and nutritionist avidly declare that my diet is responsible
and that over time my body and reserves have become so depleted
that I need to make dietary changes and take B12 injections and
some supplements. They have also warned me that because my
B12 levels were so low that it may lead to irreversible neurological
damage if I continue eating this way so I'm really worried what to
do.

I do not want to eat meat, fish, grains and eggs. Eating as nature
provides makes sense to me but I am so low and desperate that I
do not know what else to do. That is why I am asking here, maybe
I've missed something?

Can anyone offer some advice please?
