My uncle will turn 94 next week. He eats lousy food (heavily processed), but gets lots of exercise, has a great attitude (never worries), has a strong family and community connection, goes to church every week (spiritual connection) and is heavily involved in service work...in other words has a strong sense of purpose, a reason to get up every morning as he feels people depend on him. Plus he has great genes...his brother (my dad) lived to be 92 and also ate a lot of meat and didn't like fruit at all. Famed nutritionist Paavo Airola told a group I was with that nutrition is the 3rd most important factor in health. First was an attitude of gratitude and next was exercise. He actually said to us that it was better to eat junk food and exercise regularly than to eat the best possible diet and be sedentary. Reread page 11 in Doug's book.
