Dear Libre,
First, I enjoyed your lengthy reply to D. Thanks for that!
But about Enbrel, I have had some experience with it in my
family. My wife had had an extreme "attack" of Psoriatic
arthritis. Her fingers and toes swelled and she wasn't able to
walk. She was literally housebound. Talked to some Doctors and
eventually she was prescribed Enbrel (as opposed to
methotrexate which is a cancer drug) because her drug plan
covered it (which we'd never be able to afford otherwise).
As I'm sure you know Enbrel is an injection, which for my wife
seemed to cause a lot of pain. In the beginning she took the
injections twice a week so it caused a lot of anxiety as well.
But the drug did seem to relieve the symptoms. She was able to
return to work.
The doctor took her off all meds when she became pregnant. The
pregnancy lowered her immune system (haha, doctors words, and
not Dr. Graham's) and she was still symptom free.
Following the birth, the arthritis came back. It was a slow
progression, that in hindsight was right away but eventually
she needed the injections again to get some relief. But this
time it was worse and the injections didn't work as well. In
desperation and looking for solutions we decided to try going
raw. The results weren't "overnight", but it was a quick
progression to good.
She has been drug free for over 1.5 years and counting.
In the end, we have to stop harming ourselves and we each have
our own responsibility.
