The drugs are classed as immunosuppressants, sure. They are designed so that the body reacts to them by reducing various functions known as immune responses. The lowered vitality that results effectively disables the body's ability to react to various inputs that would typically trigger major responses.
My suggestion is to not get caught up in the word game.
