I was diagnosed with a hyperthyroid after I started to eat healthy (8/1/1). Many many other disorders also came up too. It took a water-only fast (31 days) in order to get to a reasonable level of physical homeostasis. Everything isn't perfect yet; however, my thyroid is within normal ranges now. Did this occur after she started?
