It really isn't that hard to learn to manage your food, especially if you learn a bit gradually. I do teach courses on food management as part of my Culinary Skills course, for those who wish to really master the art.
More challenging is learning enough about food so that you know which foods are great at which time of year.

The fun is in the learning!
