Dear Dr. Graham,

What might you recommend in terms of optimal digestion of green leafy vegetables (especially lettuce)?

I was wondering about food combining, and whether it is easier to digest greens if: eaten before fruit; with fruit (as in the same mouthfull, or alternating bites); or after fruit?

I find lettuce (e.g. romaine) tastes a little bitter to me right now (is this normal?), and so was curious how the sweetness of the fruit combines with the bitter/non-sweet lettuce in terms of stomach acids and digestion?

Also, I've been leaving behind the inner stem of lettuce leaves to ease digestion (and taste) - would I be reducing the nutrional value of the lettuce much in doing so?

Much love and thanks, DJ
