I have had issues with acid reflux over the past year. My doctor says that the
lower esophageal sphincter is not closing properly. It may have become this way
because I have eaten very large meals over the last few years (raw means more
volume), which have stretched the stomach.

Anyway, the last few months my throat has been swollen and I have difficulties
swallowing. So now my doctor wants me to take Prevacid (a proton pump
inhibitor) to eliminate the acid completely and see if that makes the throat
better. And to rule out a more serious issue.

My questions are: is it OK to take Prevacid for a limited time, or can this cause
permanent damage somehow? What, apart from reducing stress, can be done to
help with the reflux?

My diet is mostly raw and pretty low fat. Strangely I get more reflux issues when
I eat less than when I eat more. Eating more somehow seems to absorb the acid.
