That sounds like it may be agrochemicals if you buy
conventional? Or do you wash them in something that
could leave a slight coating after rinsing?
Green leaves should taste pleasantly bitter outside,
sweeter at the core and veins.
Maybe it's time to swap greens - to spinach, celery or
another?
