I have seen both my Dr. and Naturopath. Both say I have an enlarged thyroid, and blood work is being done, they haven't tested for iodine deficiency, but I haven't really had much iodine since going raw jan. 2011 so I am assuming that is likely a contributing factor. There is difficulty swallowing some times more than others, but I have only just recently foind out about goitrogens in a lot of the greens I was using for smoothies. My story for the last year was basically that I would try something, show improvement and go back to my green smoothies and get worse, never putting 2 and 2 together until learning more about thyroid and goitrogens. Do you have any suggestions? As of now my Nat. Dr. says cut out goitrogens, and also put me on a thyroid suplement but it seems that it is giving me problems (but my throat or goiter, and I believe it to be the enzymes in it, because my other enzyme supplements do the same. So I might have to stick to more of an iodine supplement without the enzymes. My Nat. Dr. is concerned about how much iodine I supplement with as she isn't familiar with Dr. David Brownsteins work on iodine who recommends at least 12.5 mg daily when the rda is only 150mcg. He says people in Asia get 12.5+ daily and don't have the goiter thyroid issues we have in America, also he sees results with high doses of iodine supplementation in iodine deficient patients. Any feedback is greatly appreciated :)
