this is what the post by HeatherM said ...
"Yes, what Elainie says is true about Roger. He suffered some sort of mental breakdown and when he snapped, he beat his beautiful infant daughter, Rainbow. Karmyn (his now ex-partner) had him arrested. This is a terrible tragedy, and I have no doubt Roger feels tremendous guilt, as he appeared to be a doting, adoring father.
He appeared to be on some sort of physical decline before this -- Karmyn posted many pictures on FB of their private lives in Hawaii, and Roger was clearly no longer thriving. He looked extremely tired and had lost much of the muscle he once had. He thrived for many years on that diet, until he didn’t.
I am assuming that you don’t reach such a state of decline without many warning signs along the way, and he (apparently) chose to ignore them and keep going. His entire livelihood and identity was wrapped up in being a poster boy for 811 -- it may have been incredibly difficult for him to admit that the diet was no longer working and he needed to make a change.
As much as I criticize Fred Patenaude for being someone different behind the scenes than the committed vegan he presents to his mailing list, he was smart enough to make changes in the interest of health, and not cling to a diet that was no longer working for him. I just wish he would admit this publicly."
