| | Subject: | T12 paraplegic - exercise programs? HELP!!! | |
Date: | August 19, 2012 at 11:05 pm PST |
My boyfiend is a paraplegic from an accident in his twenties. He is trying to eat a low fat raw vegan diet but he hardly lasts a few days without eating a bucket of ice cream or a bag of cashews when I'm not around. I try to motivate him but he seems to be depressed/unmotivated/negative. I fear that it partially has to do with the fact he can't move around as he wishes. He's 5'9 and over 200 pounds. So his weight is also hard on him. His legs and especially his ankles swell up when he sits for too long. He says he thinks he has cancer or problem with his colon because he has problems (after his accident) from bowel movements and bladder. He has severe headaches sometimes, has a hard time sleeping more than 4-5 hours and refuses to see a doctor. Since he won't see a doctor, we BOTH know he NEEDS to go on a low fat raw vegan diet and exercise. I just don't know where to start on either end and how to motivate him. I don't know if there's any physio I can perform on him to help stimulate him. If maybe he can exercise on his wheelchair sufficiently? HELP!!! I don't know where to start!!!
