At least 6 athletes started the journey to the 2012 Olympics. One lost out at trials, coming in 3rd when the top two were going. One lost out to an injury. One lost at trials, coming in second, when only the top person goes. One missed out due to personal/emotional issues. One couldn't get the funding to attend the trials, of all things. One was eliminated by Olympic regulations dragging their feet on an equality issue. No excuses. It has been a frustrating experience. Not everyone gets to go to the Olympics. The attrition rate is high, on every diet.
Considering the number of people following 811, the number of Olympic hopefuls is profound.
