We have gradually degenerated over time due to our choosing to place materialism above spirituality. We were meant to be perpetual once our spiritual nature was breathed into us. Mankind today is in danger of returning to the thinking animal state if we don't change, if we don't decide to practice love, forgiveness, peacemaking, development of our spiritual intelligence. Our Creator says if we work with Him, we can be a thousand years old and still have our teeth. (see The Revelation of Arès)
