When I do ultras, I want to eat a minimum of hourly, and if conditions allow, 2-3 times per hour. I know I can easily consume 4-500 calories per hour, but rarely need to consume that much. I usually do the math for the event in advance, because I don't want to finish with a full tank. I want to start full but finish reasonably close to empty.
