When you need to increase the amount of rest you get beyond what is normal in your life, fasting as needed is a good idea, whether short or long. To simply include weekly short fasts is not a good idea, as the initial stages of fasting are rough to go through, and physiologically the benefits of fasting take several days to truly kick in. If you just need some rest, take it, by all means. I wouldn't plan on a life that was regularly pushing me so far beyond my limits that I needed time out for fasting on a scheduled (weekly) basis.
