I second this idea, although I was able to refrigerate mine (I portioned them into ziploc bags, sucked as much of the air out as possible, zipped 'em up and refrigerated them). They stayed quite moist and good this way.

Just an idea if you do decide to go with the E420(ii) sorbitol syrup treated dates: start with a small amount and see how you feel. Some people suffer gastrointestinal distress, including diarrhea from consuming sorbitol used as an additive. Better safe than sorry!
