Hi Michael,
A few questions for you:
What did your meal prior to the watermelon consist of and when did you consume it? Did you do any sort of activity prior to consuming your watermelon, or did you just get up, get dressed, and eat? How much watermelong did you eat before you experienced this discomfort? Did you eat slowly, chewing very thoroughly?
Ah, just did a quick archive search for "melon belly," and Lennie says just what I was getting at here with all my questioning, only better! Hope this helps. :)

This is actually a common problem. Doug refers to it as melon belly. I have gotten it before and I find the speed of consumption changes the effect. It's easy to eat melon too fast. It could also be that it's being held up in your stomach by something else you ate previous to the melon, even the night before. I also find that this doesn't happen with melon that is actually in season. Watermelon is a summer fruit and it isn't summer, the ones that are in the market are being picked before the prime. Try waiting until the end of June or beginning of July and eat them again, slowly, on a completely empty stomach. I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes, if it still hurts maybe I can make a different suggestion.
Lennie
