Looks like a nice little plug for his product:
"And of course, by devouring 2 or 3 large Savory Veggie Stews for dinner."
Tee hee! :)
That aside, I've never seen Dr. Graham recommend Banana Island to anyone without a consult (meaning he is taking into consideration the WHOLE person, and then monitoring that person through feedback during the course of said consult). I think (note, I'm not saying that I know) that he utilizes BI on a short-term basis to aid people in "recalibrating" their taste buds, getting in touch with their true hunger/fullness, regulating their digestion, etc. As soon as indicated, he has them add in lettuces and/or celery and goes from there.
I can't speak to those who place themselves on BI for whatever reasons.
Not completely on point, but I found this quote from Nutritional and Athletic Performance to be quite entertaining:
"Bananas aren't really all that special. Any relatively sweet fruit will do the job of nourishing an athlete. It is just that bananas are available year-round, tend to be inexpensive, give a reliable carbohydrate "hit," and can be found everywhere in the whole world."
The purposes of BI can be accomplished with any fresh, whole, raw, ripe, organic, low fat, sweet fruit -- nothing magical about the banana. :)
