How is the strength of your glute med? I'm a Massage Therapist and
have dealt with this many times with my patients, as well as from
personal experience. Its usually due to gait and or muscular
imbalances. It is fairly common for people to experience ITB flare ups
with cycling as well if it is due to a muscle imbalance, especially if
you're sitting a lot throughout the day for either work or school, and
then spend the majority of your time sitting when you're not
working/studying (ie cycling). Also you could be structurally
predisposed, (ie genu valgum, which places more stress upon ITB,
making it more challenging for it to do its job which is to stabilize the
femural condyles on the tibial plateau) I hope this helps.
