Wow, Heidi Jane, lots of questions! :)
I'm just not keen on the taste of oranges and tomatoes together, which is why I don't combine them. I don't really know exact amounts. I just kind of throw stuff in the Vitamix and go with it! It depends on the variety of tomato as well. Some are "juicier" than others. I'm growing 12 different varieties this summer (just planted 'em last weekend). I'm sure if you play around you'll find the ratios you like. It's kinda fun to experiment. :) The latest orange/celery sauce I did, I think it was 3 large navels and 1/2 head of celery and then I also diced 3 more large navels and the other half of the celery into the salad.
I've never really liked the taste or texture of avos much (probably from my first experience with them as a child when I didn't know I wasn't supposed to eat the peel -- ick!). Since "going 811rv," I've experienced very uncomfortable indigestion after consuming about 1/4 of an avocado on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The last time I ate a smaller amount on Valentine's Day it didn't bother me though. Haven't sought it out since . . .
I'm not big on nuts and seeds. I've not been able to find raw ones (the ones in stores that are labeled raw aren't really raw) and don't really like the taste (probably because of all the peanut butter sandwiches I had to eat as a child -- ick!!!). I've just not worried about eating overt fats, although Dr. Graham recently recommended that I eat a small amount for a few days so I added a tablespoon of chia seeds to my nightly salad for a few days. I couldn't taste them at all, so that was fine with me. :)
And, no, I've never tasted durian. Dr. Graham doesn't recommend eating imported durian and I've not been in a place where they are grown. Can't say I'm curious about them either.
And, no to combining dates. I ordered a 15 pound box of very fresh, juicy dates from 7hotdates.com in late 2010 and ate them during marathon training season to get in some extra calories. I then had some fresh local dates in early December 2011 when I was in Arizona. When I got back I made the mistake of buying some organic medjools in the grocery store -- ick! They tasted dry and gummy and I did not like them. Maybe I'll have some again when I return to AZ this coming December.
Mostly I eat two big meals a day, sometimes with a smaller "snack" meal in between. My first meal is mono fruit and my smaller "snack" would be a mono fruit as well, with a very large "recipe" for dinner (e.g., zucchini or cucumber "pasta," veggie salad with non-sweet fruit sauce, etc.). I can go weeks of having the same fruit, such as pretty much all of November and December I lived on persimmons. :) I'm not really big on variety, but Dr. Graham has challenged me to try at least one new food per month and I've been doing that. :)
Whew! Hope I hit all your questions, Heidi.
