Children typically have a lot going for them:
High vitality, no history of disease, strong constitution, raging metabolic rate, highly active, good digestion, rarely overeating, among many other factors.
Surviving to adulthood is a balancing act, for sure.
They need the fat for a variety of reasons, hence, even if it is tough on certain aspects of their health, the fat is better for them than any other approach. The trick is getting children to eat lots of fruit and lots of veg. Once that is achieved, there really doesn't need to be lots of concern or intellectualizing about the remainder of a child's diet.
