It looks like Amy is providing good relevant info. I have been having soreness around the front- right-side of my tongue, for perhaps 3 years. Some years prior to the start of this problem, I had occurrences of squamous cell cancer around the back- right-side of my tongue. As in the past cases, I may have some pain especially when the area is touched with acid fruit or sticky fruit such as from dates. In the current problem the sensitive area is somewhat reddish, as though the outermost layer of tissue is gone, plus some non-sensitive leucoplakia (whitish tissue). It appears that the closer I eat to a healthy diet the better the area looks and feels. My head/neck surgeon at Kaiser, my HMO, says that the tissue is soft and a biopsy is not indicated. He suspects that I am biting my tongue regularly. In a recent preliminary consult with Dr Doug G, regarding this and other problems, though I am 66 years of age, he was quite optimistic that the 811RV diet would be of great help. Steph, since you, and Amy, appear to be already on the good diet, your problems appear to be different than mine. I am wondering if purchasing a dental mirror would make it easier to view such problem areas, especially when it is towards the back or underside of the tongue. Hope you get a handle on your problem soon.
