The only sources of vitamin D from whole foods are from animal products. Vitamin D is created by animals and not by plants (which includes bacteria). All sources and supplements are derived from animal or bacterial products except some mushrooms have vitamin D.

It's best to follow a low fat vegan diet and get outside while you exercise as well as getting enough sleep and your vitamin D issues (if there are any) will go away.

The only time a supplement would be recommended is to reverse obvious symptoms of D deficiency for a short time until your body adjusts to a better diet, exercise, sunshine and enough sleep.
