There are many possible reasons for the thirst you are asking about. For many people, getting used to not eating salt results in temporary, but quite noticeable, thirst. For some, blood-sugar levels rising to abnormally high levels can result in extreme thirst. Weather changes can often trigger huge thirst reactions. I typically drink no water at all during the 6-8 cooler months of the year, but might drink a gallon or more on a summer day when I am very active. There are other reasons to experience thirst, but each individual must be assessed individually, so although the symptom is not uncommon, I cannot point out the single causative substance, force, condition, influence, or agent for this symptom.
