I'm not committed to doing 80/10/10 for the rest of my life, but I did try it out...with frustrating results. I was not able to stay within my caloric requirements without craving cooked food. Whenever I did crave cooked food I ate more fruit, as you suggest in your book. However, I continued to gain weight. After gaining about 10lbs in a few weeks and constantly needing to drink more water than usual and urinating a lot more, I decided I wasn't happy with what was happening. Since then I've gone back to some animal products (just fish and egg whites), keeping my fat intake low and including some fruits and many vegetables. I will always stick with whole foods. I feel great and it's easier to stay full and within my caloric requirements. I have lost some of the weight again and I can get through the day without constantly thinking about food. There's something about including more protein that's satiating--why is that? Also, I have not been as thirsty at all (I am still conscious about drinking enough water though). I'm actually frustrated that I can't seem to be happy with 80/10/10. I desperately wanted it to work--especially because everyone talks about the great results, especially for athletics. I didn't like the weight gain, the constant cravings, and constant thirst. I did it completely for about a month (I'm guessing that's too short of amount of time, but I had been working towards it for about three months and I didn't want to wait to see the weight climb even higher). I guess I just want to hear your thoughts on all of this. I am in no way angry with you or what you promote, I just cannot understand why my body doesn't seem to tolerate this correctly. I almost feel a "revelation" since going back to more protein sources; it's nice feeling satiated. I did try McDougall's diet as well (starches in place of fruit) which felt a little more satisfying, but not quite. I felt like I was still constantly eating all day.
