Marie,
I think it perfectly appropriate for Doug to use the title that he has earned.
Presidents Carter, Bush, Bush, and Clinton, are all referred to as, "President ..." even though they are retired.
A retired judge is still called, "Judge...".
A retired Ph.D., or a Ph.D. no longer working in the field for which they earned their doctorate is still called, "Dr. ...".
And a doctor, whether they have retired or are simply no longer practicing is still called, "Dr. ...".
With regards to the title being misleading, most people are surprised by with the amount of nutritional education that chiropractors receive?
Also, as occurs with doctors and registered healthcare workers all across the United States, we don't stop learning when we finish our formal educations. Continuing Medical Education or Continuing Educational Units are required by a state's board of healing arts or perhaps the body that issues one's certification or registration.
Formally or informally Doug has continued to build upon his knowledge base.
And are you aware of how much training a chiropractor receives versus an M.D. or a D.O.?
Yet many, perhaps most individuals wouldn't hesitate to take an M.D.'s advice on nutrition.
I would have to assume that anyone relying upon Doug to professionally guide them, would be reasonably familiar with his background.
Peace,
Chris
