Hi heidi jane,

Not getting into all the different aspects of digestion here, just sharing my personal preferences as far as eating and activity go. For me, I like to follow Dr. Graham's suggestion of moving FIRST and then eating. From the Perfect Health Series he says,

"The best time to eat is immediately following physical activity . . . . If I was going to set up a lifestyle pattern for people, I would say that, regardless of the number of timex per day that they eat, it would be essentially a patter such as physical activity followed by food followed by periods of physical inactivity or rest . . . . Three hours, four hours, five hours until the next period of physical activity would come about and then more food." He goes on to say not to get neurotic about this! :)

For me, I like to leave AT LEAST a good 3+ hours between eating and exercise like running or cycling. I like exercising on a more or less empty stomach. Just because my stomach's empty doesn't mean I don't have any stored glycogen to get me through my activities! It just means I won't be burping or having to find the nearest loo! :)

So, on days where I run after work, I make sure my last meal was at least 4 or 5 hours prior to getting home.

I encourage you to play around with it and see what works for you. :)
