yeah, things don't seem to be black/white when it comes to topical fluoride. As far as I know from reading, it definitely strengthens enamel, but that in itself can be a problem.

Personally, if I had to get a cavity filled, I'd just make sure it's a composite, not an amalgam. If I see a dentist who insists on amalgams, I run.
