Hey Brian, Totally can relate with you. I've been on this diet a little over a year, and I really messed up with lots of unripe fruit/ citrus early on. Likewise I had some dentin exposed, and at one point it looked like I had an infection. About 6 months into the diet, I went to the dentist and they found (after xraying) one cavity. The dentist recommended fluoride toothpaste, which I opted not to do. I'm going back for my next appointment in another 6 months to get an update, but for now my teeth and gums have been slowly improving as I cut out all the citrus. Whenever I reintroduce citrus, even for one meal (unless it's OJ or something where you just drink it), my teeth get sensitive and uncomfortable like you describe. This happens with a lot of unripe fruit, like grapes, as well, but never happens with things like bananas or datorade. If I were you, I'd hold off on filling it or using fluoride toothpaste, and continue to take good care of your teeth. Get an electric toothbrush, if you can, that made a lot of difference for me. You're not going to need a root canal in 6 months-1 a year time, especially if the cavity doesn't hurt you now. Avoid citrus and unripe fruit, take good care of your teeth, and reevaluate at your next dentist appointment.
