Subject:	what causes voices in the head

A friend, 70 years old, has recently been hearing voices in her head which are
greatly upsetting her. She said it is her own voice, repeating nonsense words
over and over. The docs have no idea what the cause is or how to fix it, but they
are giving her drugs. Bipolar drugs, schizophrenia drugs, etc. She says they help
a little, because the voices are stronger when they take her off the drugs
completely. She also says watching TV helps a little, so she watches it all day
long. I talked to her on the phone today and she sounds very drugged up.

What would cause something like this?
