I wonder if it has to do with a parasitic infection? I have been trying to figure this out myself as I've had mine taken out and I was shocked!! That was about 5yrs ago... more recently I found I had parasites and I've surely had them for at least 10 years and I recently read that they can cause fibrosis of the appendix, I think that's what happened to me. Also genetics both sides of my family have digestive disorders... hope that helps,
